A NEW LGBTQ+ WELCOMING SENIOR COMMUNITY
LOCATED IN THE MID-MARKET/CASTRO NEIGHBORHOOD OF SAN FRANCISCO

ABOUT

1939 Market will be a fifteen story, Type I building with a maximum of 188 affordable studio and 1-bedroom apartments serving low-income seniors. The building will feature community and open spaces for residential use, ground floor property management and service offices, as well as community-serving retail. Mercy Housing California (MHC) and Openhouse intend to create a welcoming community for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ elders.

MHC, with Openhouse as co-developer, applied under the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD) Multisite RFQ in Spring 2021 to develop 1939 Market Street – a City-owned site in the Mid-Market/Castro neighborhood. MHC and Openhouse were awarded the opportunity to develop the site in Summer 2021.
